Shirley R. Coon, 85, passed away quietly Thursday,
Dec. 13, 2007,
at home in East Flat Rock.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert L. Coon Sr.; sisters,
Martha DeWitte, Evelyn Marriott and Jean Betlem; and other loved ones. Mom
always walked with the Lord. She met Robert at church in Rochester, N.Y. They
married and raised seven children, Robert L. Coon Jr., David Coon, William Coon,
Philip Coon, Carol Partyka, Martin Coon and Virginia Colburn. She was active
with the WOC of Pinecrest Presbyterian Church until a fall in 2004 kept her
house bound.
She is also survived by her remaining sister, Barbara Marriott; 17
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Pinecrest Presbyterian Church. In

Francis A. "Frank" Partyka, 86, of Flat Rock died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at his home.
Born
July 22, 1921 in Bayone, N.J. he was raised and schooled in what is now
Piscataway, N.J.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific in the
Solomons Campaign U.S. Amphibian Operation. He was married to Marie H. Baker of
the Bronx, N.Y., who died in February 1986.
He worked for 7UP Bottling Co. of Plainfield, N.J., and New Rochelle, N.Y., for
42 years. He was assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 49 of Middlesex, N.J., for
eight years. A member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, he was
also member of Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post 5206, where he served on the Honor Guard
for eight years.
He was also a member of LCT Flotilla of World War II, USS LCT National
Association, Polish Club of N.W. Carolina, Hendersonville and the Opportunity
House.
Surviving is a daughter, Elise M. Vogel, and granddaughter, Heather Vogel of
Jacksonville, Fla.; and a son, James F. Partyka and wife, Carol, and a
step-granddaughter, Katelyn, all of East Flat Rock.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Interment will take place
beside his wife in New Jersey.
