Mae DeWitte 1944 – Shirley DeWitte remembers receiving this photograph in the mail on Valentine's Day when she was living in a one-room adobe hut in Marfa Texas. Robert Lewis Coon was in the Air Force and stationed at Marfa Air Base at the time. Shirley was pregnant with Robert Jr. and was sick as a dog with the heat and dealing with the smell of the gas pilot light on the stove. Mae sent care packages to Shirley because Shirley was too sick to work.
